Focused on the principles of community and renewal this approximately 150,000 sq ft site serves as the central park for downtown Eugene, OR. The park blocks have resided as the primary nodes of public use and social interaction for the city. Current conditions provide places to rest, eat, and serve as temporal dwelling spaces for the growing homeless population. In order to assimilate this portion of the downtown population back into society and reinstill a sense of belonging in the community . Sanctuary Park serves to dissolve social disparities within downtown Eugene. Circumvented by Eugene's administrative district this revitalization of the park blocks adds color and vitality to the city's aged context becoming a cultural and communal intersection as the gateway to downtown's historical district.
